When it comes to weddings, every couple wants their day to stand out and reflect their personalities. Over the past year, I’ve had the honour of playing a role in some of the most creative and memorable wedding music moments. From epic bridal entrances to heartfelt surprises, here are three unique wedding music moments from 2024 that truly captured the magic of the day.
1. An Epic Bridal Entrance Medley Inspired by Film Themes
One of the most extraordinary entrances I’ve ever been part of took place earlier this year when a bride wanted to combine her love of film scores into a single, unforgettable moment. The bridal party had a long walk to reach the aisle, so a traditional short entrance song wouldn’t do. Instead, the bride envisioned a medley of iconic film themes, including:
- Back to the Future Theme
- The Shire from Lord of the Rings
- Jurassic Park Theme
- Across the Stars from Star Wars
- Indiana Jones Love Theme
- PM’s Love Theme from Love Actually
- The Riders of Rohan
The medley spanned an epic nine minutes, with each section carefully timed for the bridal party’s entrance. Originally, the bride tried to create the arrangement herself using clips from different recordings, but the varying keys and tempos made it tricky to flow smoothly. She reached out for help, and I worked with her to create a bespoke arrangement for piano and cello, blending the themes seamlessly.
The bride rehearsed the timing with her bridal party ahead of the big day, and it was a surprise for the groom. His reaction? A mix of tears, laughter, and complete awe. The guests were equally captivated by this unique entrance, which set the tone for an unforgettable ceremony.
2. A Groom Playing the Piano for His Bride in a unique wedding music moment
This moment was a first for me—and one I won’t forget! At one wedding, the groom decided to play the piano as his bride walked down the aisle. Having taught himself the song especially for the day, he wanted to create a deeply personal and emotional moment for his bride and their guests.
We set the piano at the end of the aisle, in the center of the ceremony space. I played s soft, instrumental version of Kiss Me for the bridesmaids’ entrance, and as the registrar announced the bride, the groom and I swapped places. With steady hands, he played the song they both cherished while his bride made her way down the aisle.
The guests were stunned, with many unaware that the groom even played the piano. It was truly a one-of-a-kind wedding ceremony entrance that spoke volumes about their love story.
3. A Cross-Shaped Ceremony Layout with the Piano as the Star
At the Kimpton Fitzroy in London, I had the pleasure of playing at a wedding that completely redefined ceremony styling. The ballroom was arranged in a unique cross-shaped layout, with a gap in the seating halfway down the aisle.
At this central point, my grand piano was set up, surrounded by glowing candles, with a violinist positioned on the opposite side of the aisle facing me. The guests were seated both in front of and behind us, making the music feel like an integral part of the ceremony rather than just an accompaniment. View the set-up here.
The styling was breathtaking, and the arrangement became a focal point for the ceremony. Guests commented throughout the day on how beautifully the music was incorporated into the design—it truly elevated the atmosphere and created a memory that everyone would take home with them.
