Nestled in the heart of the serene landscapes of South Wales, Hensol Castle stands as a testament to timeless romance. On a bank holiday weekend in August, the castle’s historic walls bore witness to a celebration of love as Holly and Adrien committed their forever to each other. As the wedding pianist privileged to set the tone for their day, I had the pleasure of playing a part in transforming Hensol Castle into the backdrop for their wedding celebration. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the details of the real wedding at Hensol Castle, focusing on the chosen music that added a special touch to both the ceremony and the wedding breakfast. Join me as we revisit the key moments of this memorable day, highlighting the role music played in creating lasting memories at Hensol Castle.

the wedding ceremony at hensol castle

Holly and Adrien booked me for our popular Gold Package, which includes live piano music for two parts of the daytime wedding celebration. For their ceremony, I set up my digital piano in the Oak Room. The Oak Room at Hensol Castle is the perfect location for an elegant ceremony with its original wood panelling, period fireplace and arched windows. Each chair had a beautiful order of service, and elegant white sashes. As guests were seated prior to the ceremony, I played a selection of classical music both modern and traditional. This included music by Ludovico Einaudi, the popular River Flows in You by Yiruma and Claire de Lune by Debussy.

For their ceremony music, Holly and Adrien chose:

  • Ceremony Entrance: Lewis Capaldi – Hold Me While You Wait
  • Signing of the Register: John Legend – All of me & Taylor Swift – Lover
  • Ceremony Exit: Elvis Presley – The Wonder of You

It was such a beautiful, moving ceremony, with personal readings and heartfelt vows. Holly and Adrien’s love and commitment to one another shone throughout, and I had a few misty eyed moments!

An overcast but warm, dry day allowed the guests to enjoy the drinks reception in the beautiful grounds around Hensol Castle. I took a break during this time, and paid a visit to The Vale Resort for a cup of my favourite peppermint tea.

the wedding breakfast

The couple chose to have piano music during their wedding breakfast as part of our Gold Package. I returned to the castle and set up my piano in the Courtyard Hall. This room is enclosed within the castle walls and has its own inner courtyard, dance floor and bar. It was the perfect place to continue the celebrations! As Holly and Adrien had only used two of their five free music choices outside of my repertoire list, the other three were included here. They were:

I found a beautiful piano arrangement of Nervous and it has now become a regular in my set lists. As John Legend is a pianist himself, his music works so well for solo piano and I love to include it when I perform at weddings and events.
