A Wedding Pianist in Hertfordshire: Bringing Beautiful Piano Music to a New County

Welcome! If you are reading this blog post, the chances are that you’re looking for a wedding pianist in Hertfordshire. Maybe you would like beautiful live piano music for your wedding ceremony, or you want to entertain your guests with background piano music during your drinks reception or wedding breakfast, and capture that elegant, piano lounge vibe.

I can reassure you that you’ve come to the right place! But why is it so significant that I’m a Hertfordshire wedding pianist? Grab a cuppa and let me share my story with you.

It all started in South Wales

Although I now live in the South East of England I grew up in South Wales, in a small village in Aberdare, which is in the Cynon Valley. It’s mid-way between Cardiff and Swansea, and quite near Brecon (that’s the response I give when people have never heard of Aberdare, and if that’s still not helping, I usually end with ‘it’s the next valley over from Merthyr Tydfil’, which most people have heard of for all the wrong reasons!).

Once I graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I studied for a postgraduate in solo piano performance, I embarked on a freelance career. Part of this involved setting myself up as a wedding pianist, and I began playing at venues in Cardiff, Swansea, and the beautiful Brecon Beacons. To begin with it was just me, my digital piano and a homemade website. I travelled around South Wales in my little maroon Fiesta, unloading my equipment in the blazing sunshine and sometimes the pouring rain. I played couples down the aisle, witnessed them committing their forever to each other, and entertained guests as they celebrated.

But as enquiries increased and I was unable to fulfil all the dates myself, I took on a team of pianists that I knew would deliver the same high level of service that my couples expected. The business was called South Wales Pianist, and it was my baby.

Love knows no borders: from Hong Kong to Hertfordshire

In October 2016 I went on a work trip to Hong Kong, and it was there I met my husband. He was from Harpenden in Hertfordshire, a town I’d never heard of before but one with which I’d soon become very familiar! What began as a chance meeting in Hong Kong blossomed into a  beautiful love story that led me to make Hertfordshire my new home.

As the founder of South Wales Pianist, my passion for bringing the enchantment of live piano music to weddings remained steadfast. The transition to Hertfordshire marked not just a change in location but a significant expansion of our musical horizons. In October 2023, South Wales Pianist evolved into HMH Piano Collective, extending our reach across Hertfordshire, the home counties, and beyond.
